Flexible Training

It is possible to train in General Practice at less than full time but there are certain eligibility criteria and limitations that have to be fulfilled.

If you wish to apply to train flexibly you must submit a timetable to the deanery and request approval before the start of your post. There are several flexible trainees on the scheme at present and the programme directors are very experienced at supporting them so don't feel that you are on your own!

For more information see the London Deanery Flexible Training Handbook and the London Deanery Website for more information.

Please look at our Flexible Training FAQ section for detailed information on eligibility criteria, how to apply for flexible training, educational approval, General Practice and everything else you need to know about training less-than-full-time through the London Deanery.

If you have a query that is not covered by the website, please email the appropriate flexible training team member as listed below and we will respond to you as quickly as we can:

Less than full time trainees and the ePortfolio

The current RCGP position is that LTFTT need to complete the same amount of evidence for their 6monthly reviews as full time trainees (ie same number of COTs/CBDs etc) and not a pro-rata amount

From the RCGP website -more here

  • However, our current guidance remains that the educational review schedule for LTFTTs will remain the same and at the same intervals as full time trainees; namely every six months with annual reviews of competence progression (ARCP).

  • Less than full time trainees will be required to gather the same amount of evidence prior to their educational reviews as their full time equivalents. The review and assessment schedule should not be considered and collected on a pro rata basis.
